Petraiture (pet portraiture) Why its so important

Petraiture is the name I give to my animal portraits.  I am currently working on updating my pet portfolio for a very good cause.  A few weeks ago, while in the pet store, I met the people from the Orange County Animal Shelter.  I met and fell in love with a dog named Jillie.  Jillie and her sister Millie are older dogs and have some minor health issues.  They arrived at the shelter, when their mommy could no longer take care of them (happens alot with older people, who either go to live in a home, or pass on)  But I fell so in love with Jillie, I wanted to bring her home right away.  Of course, already having a dog, and a cat, and not knowing how they would react to another dog I realized, this probably wasnt the best way to help.  I took some of the paper work from the nice woman who works at the shelter.  When I arrived home later that night, I looked over the papers on volunteering and how to help.  PHOTOGRAPHY! BINGO!  I can deffinetly do that.

So here I am with my own big love muffin, practicing and expanding my portfolio with pictures of pets.  And my thought process expanded "why cant we use props and backdrops on pets, like we do with humans? Are they not our fur babies?"

My big handsome boy sat very happily in front of my summer scene, with some shades on!
and my smarty pants scene.  I would love to take credit for this idea, but it was all my daughters idea.  Those are her glasses, and she wanted him to look smart like her! She was an amazing assistant for this session.  As Daeday is her best friend, and she can get him to do ANYTHING.

So this is the cute face I am working on right now.  Because I want to give back and help these precious animals.  My goal is to get aligned with organizations like HeartSpeak or even BadRap to help get out the REAL TRUTH on pitbulls like my baby.  My motto is "God gave me this gift, I am going to give it back"

Animals with good photos available online are more likely to be adopted, than ones with no photos.  Raising awareness, can limit the amount of shelter dogs, euthanized every year, due to them not being adopted in a timely manner.  If your a photographer and have experiance working with animals, I encourage you to contact your local shelters to see if you can help! And If any of my clients want pictures of their pets or with their pets, contact me for a discounted session rate!  I will be offering discounts of petraiture until I feel I have a substantial portfolio to work with!
